Key Benefits

The UK’s number one High Erucic Acid Rape (HEAR) variety
Consistenty high yields
High erucic acid content and low glucosinolates
Good stem stiffness and lodging resistance
Excellent stem canker resistance
Shorter straw allows direct cutting to reduce harvest costs
Late flowering habit avoids the risk posed by late frosts

Yield and Gross Output

High seed yield and oil content gives a very high gross output

Disease Resistance

Hearty has excellent resistance to stem canker. Its light leaf spot resistance is not strong and a fungicidal strategy should be adopted where this disease is a threat. This is particularly important if the variety is grown in the North

Agronomy

Hearty is a low biomass type with excellent lodging resistance
Hearty is suitable for swathing or direct combining
The relatively late flowering habit helps to avoid the risk of late spring frost damage. Pod fill is rapid leading to medium-early maturity

Drilling Rates

Aim for a target spring population of 50-60 plants per m2
Seed rate will vary with seedbed quality and estimated plant losses over the winter
Drilling rate will normally range from 80-120 seeds per m2
Objective should be to drill by seed number rather than weight
